 Restoration Funding - Federal Programs
Catalog of Federal Funding Sources for Watershed Protection
United States Environmental Protection Agency
The Catalog of Federal Funding Sources for Watershed Protection provides access to multiple funding sources nationwide. It is a searchable database produced to help watershed protection organizations locate federal support. It also highlights federal grants and loans that may be used at the local level to support watershed projects.
Central Valley Project Improvement Act-Anadromous Fish Restoration Program
United States Fish and Wildlife Service
The Central Valley Project Improvement Act directs the Secretary of the Interior to develop and implement a program that makes all reasonable efforts to at least double natural production of anadromous fish in California's Central Valley streams. The program is known as the Anadromous Fish Restoration Program. AFRP funds restoration, monitoring, special field studies, modeling studies, and riparian land acquisition, as well as any other activity that has the potential to improve habitat for anadromous fish in the Central Valley.
Five Star Restoration Program
US Environmental Protection Agency
The Five Star Challenge Grants Program champions restoration projects that involve multiple and diverse partners, including local government agencies, elected officials, community groups, businesses, schools, and environmental organizations. Its objective is to engage five or more partners in each project to contribute funding, land, technical assistance, workforce support, or other in-kind services that match the program's funding assistance.

National Fish Passage Program
United States Fish and Wildlife Service
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's National Fish Passage Program is a voluntary, non-regulatory program that provides funding and technical assistance toward removing or bypassing barriers to fish movement. A fish passage project can be any activity that directly improves the ability of fish or other aquatic species to move by reconnecting habitat that has been fragmented by barriers.
NOAA Restoration Center
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
National Marine Fisheries Service
The NMFS/NOAA Community-Based Restoration Program began in 1996 to inspire local efforts to conduct meaningful restoration of marine, estuarine, and riparian habitat. The program is a systematic effort to catalyze partnerships at the national and local level to contribute funding, technical assistance, land, volunteer support or other in-kind services to help citizens carry out sound restoration projects that promote stewardship and a conservation ethic for living marine resources. Pacific Coastal Salmon Recovery Fund
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration/National Marine Fisheries Service - NW Region
The Pacific Coastal Salmon Recovery Fund (PCSRF) was established in FY2000 to provide grants to the states and tribes to assist state, tribal and local salmon conservation and recovery efforts. The fund supplements existing state, tribal and federal programs to foster development of federal-state-tribal-local partnerships in salmon and steelhead recovery and conservation; promotes efficiencies and effectiveness in recovery efforts through enhanced sharing and pooling of capabilities, expertise and information.

Partners for Fish and Wildlife Program
US Fish and Wildlife Service
Partners for Fish and Wildlife program, formerly Partners for Wildlife, offers technical and financial assistance to non-federal landowners to voluntarily restore wetlands and other fish and wildlife habitats on their land. The program emphasizes the reestablishment of native vegetation and ecological communities for the benefit of fish and wildlife in concert with the needs and desires of private landowners.
Private Stewardship Grants Program
United States Fish and Wildlife Service
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is soliciting project proposals for Federal assistance under the Private Stewardship Grants Program (PSGP).Congress appropriated $10 million from the Land and Water Conservation Fund in Fiscal Year 2002 for the Service to establish the PSGP. The PSGP provides grants and other assistance on a competitive basis to individuals and groups engaged in private, voluntary conservation efforts that benefit species listed or proposed as endangered or threatened under the Endangered Species Act of 1973.
Watershed Surveys and Planning
USDA, Natural Resources Conservation Service
The Watershed and Flood Prevention Act, PL 83-566, 4 Aug 1954, (16 U.S. Code 1001-1008) authorized the Watershed Surveys and Planning program. The program assists federal, state, and local agencies and tribal governments to protect watersheds from erosion, floodwater, and sediment damage by and to conserve and develop water and land resources. Resource concerns addressed by the program include water quality, opportunities for water conservation, wetland and water storage capacity, agricultural drought problems, rural development, municipal and industrial water needs, upstream flood damage, and water needs for fish, wildlife, and forest-based industries.

Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program
USDA, Natural Resources Conservation Service
The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Natural Resources Conservation Service offers participants technical and financial assistance for the establishment of wildlife habitat development practices. In addition, if the landowner agrees, cooperating state wildlife agencies and nonprofit or private organizations may provide expertise or additional funding to help complete a project.
